Fieldtrips are regularly held on the third Saturday of the month and meet in the parking lot of the McDonald’s in Pinetop at 7:00 A.M. sharp. Special trips and afternoon fieldtrips are as scheduled. There are no regular trips in December, January, or February, but look for our Christmas Bird Count and other special events during the winter.

2008 Schedule of Events

Meeting Schedule and Presentations

  • April 2- Bill Parker, paleontologist with Petrified Forest National Park Service, will speak on work at the park
  • May 7- Cathy Wise and Sam Campana. Cathy will speak on the Bird Sleuth program and Sam will give Audubon Arizona information
  • June 4- Ramon Riley with Fort Apache Museum will speak about the culture of the White Mountain Apaches
  • June 20-22 June 20-22   Campout speaker on Saturday evening is Jim Burns who writes for the Arizona Republic.  Also entertaining campers, a local astronomy club will arrive at 3:30 on Saturday afternoon for solar exploration and later, evening observations.  Participants may join the campout for any part of the weekend.
  • July 9- Greg Clark with "Wild at Heart" will speak about Burrowing Owl relocation program
  • August 6- Josh Robinson with "Eden on Earth," a landscape business in Flagstaff, will speak on water conservation in the home and yard
  • September 3- Randy Porch with NPC will speak on geology of water in the White Mountain area
  • October 1- speaker to be announced
  • Nov 5- speaker to be announced

FIELD TRIP AGENDA 2008

  • March 15 Woodland Lake, Edler’s Lake, Fred’s Lake, Rainbow Lake, Scott’s Reservoir, Jacques  Marsh
  • April 19 Pintail Lake, Five Mile Draw, Petrified Forest
  • May 10 Migratory Bird Count  You may join the group at The Wenima Wildlife Area just north of Springerville Springerville at 8 A.M., if you don’t  want to carpool/caravan from the McDonald’s.
  • May 16, 17, 18  Bird-a-Thon   (Teams formed at 5/7/08 meeting)  
  • June 20-22 WMAS Campout (Information to follow).
  • July 19 South Fork, Crescent Lake, Big Lake, Sierra Blanca,  Lake, Luna Lake, Alpine
  • July 26   Hummingbird Banding (Sipe Wildlife Area)
  • August 16 Owling trip (Location & time to be announced)
  • September 20  Migratory Bird Count  You may join the group at  the Wenima Wildlife Area just north of Springerville Springerville at 8 A.M., if you don’t want to carpool/caravan from the McDonald’s
  • October 17-21Southern Arizona  (Information to follow)
  • November 15 Boyce Thompson Arboretum ( meeting at 5 A.M.)

MEETINGS are held at 7:00 P.M. at the Pinetop-Lakeside Town Council Chambers on Neils Hansen Lane in Lakeside (turn opposite Navapache Electric’s upper parking lot). Programs Coordinator: Loretta Pena 

FIELDTRIPS meet at 7:00 A.M. in the parking lot of the McDonald’s in Pinetop, unless otherwise noted. Bring binoculars, water, and a bag lunch. For more information, contact the listed Fieldtrip Leader.
